Full St. Frangelico Cathedral Chapel Walkthrough

The First Section of the Cathedral

After passing through the Path of Misery, you'll find the St. Frangelico Cathedral at the end of a bridge. Open the doors and enter the building to find the St. Frangelico Cathedral Chapel Stargazer up ahead. You can interact with the altar at the far end for some religious lore. After you're done with this room, head through the doorway on the left where the oil trail on the ground is leading you to.

If you turn right as soon as you enter the large room, you'll find the Stained Choir Sheet Music on the organ chair. Pick it up, then head down the ramp into the large hole in the floor, turning right when you can. Head down this hallway and near the end, you'll find a Vivid Ergo Fragment in a cubby to the left. Opposite it to the right, you'll find a ladder going down.

At the bottom of the ladder, turn left at the corner. You'll emerge out into a tall room. To the right, the stairs lead up to a pulley with platforms going down system. This will become a shortcut later when you flip a lever that changes the direction of the platforms to go upwards instead. The middle of the room is flooded with an acid that will inflict ticks of Decay as you stand in it. Run over to the other side as quick as you can and three Carcasses will follow you out of the water. Defeat them, then pick up the Cat Dust from the water. Climb up the ladder on the opposite side when you're done.

At the top, you'll want to follow the wooden platforms and beams to the left side of this floor. At the corner is a Carcass patrolling the area. Defeat it and when you hop over to the next platform on the left, another Carcass will climb up and attack you. Be careful of the Bloated Carcass throwing stuff at you from the further platform. You can hide behind some of the wooden beams around to take cover.

After all the Carcasses have been dealt with and you've crossed to the other side of the floor, climb up the ladder. Destroy the crates in the cubby on the left to reveal a hole in the floor. Drop down to gain access to the Radiant Ergo Fragment to the right. On the left side, drop down on the platform below to get to a Hidden Moonstone, and a Carcass will climb up nearby to attack you. Defeat it, then jump back over to the ladder using the small ramp to the right. The jumping tutorial may come a bit later in the level, so if you haven't seen it, you can jump by dashing with B on an Xbox controller and pressing the Left Stick while sprinting to jump.

Back up the ladder, look to your left again, but instead of dropping down the hole, walk across the thin wooden beam towards a Bloated Carcass on the other side. Be careful of the spinning gear on the way, as it may push you off if not timed correctly. From the Bloated Carcass, continue to the right, where you'll find another Carcass, and further in to the right you'll find yet another Bloated Carcass on the final platform past a skinny beam. When you've dealt with the Bloated Carcass, you can pick up the Star Fragment on the thin beams to the left of where you came from instead.

Return to the final platform of the level and descend down the ladder. Follow the passageway and turn left at the end. Don't step onto the tracks yet as an electrified boulder will come crashing down form the left. Similar to the flaming boulder at Venigni Works, an electrified boulder will continuously drop down the ramp here and will not only inflict the Electric Shock status, but also deal significant damage and knock you down.

Go up the ramp and take refuge about halfway through, on the right between the two planks leaning against the wall. Let the boulder past and at the top of the ramp, start by going to the right of the spinning mechanism. Here, you'll find a ladder going up. Take it and stop in front of the boulder tracks. Wait for the next boulder to pass by, head up the slope, then go into the cubby to your left. You'll find another Trinity Sanctum you can open with a Trinity Key. While you don't have a Trinity Key at the moment, remember this place and come back later after obtaining the one at Malum District. Similar to the room found at Venigni Works, there'll be a test and a riddle of some sort that you can interact with within the room. The safe here contains the Black Cat's Amulet and the Monster Sweeper's Hunting Apparel.

Head out the room when you're done and back the ladder down. Go the the left of the spinning mechanism this time. You'll have to fight two Carcasses, then you can go to the end and ascend some steps to the left. When you enter the next doorway, you'll find some writing on the wall opposite you that you can interact with. At the other end of the room, you'll find an idle Carcass. As you approach it, a Bloated Carcass and an additional Carcass will burst out through the broken door next to it.

Defeat them all then head up the stairs through the doorway that the Bloated Carcass broke through. At the top of the second set of stairs turn right to find a Dim Ergo Fragment, then go to the left to go up another set of steps. At the other end of the hallway, turn right to emerge back into the tall room.

Ahead, you'll see a large cog wheel blocking your way forward. One of the cogs on the wheel is broken. You can jump onto the next platform through the broken cog. To your right, push off the brazier from the platform to get rid of the acid on the bottom floor. You'll see that a new passageway also opens up down there, but we'll get to that later. For now, jump over to the other side, past the next cog wheel.

At the end, you'll have three ways to go - to the left, right, and past a gate ahead. Start by heading right to find a lever that you can pull to change the direction of the pulley system next to you. Instead of continuously going down, it will now go up, unlocking a shortcut back here from the bottom of the acid room. If you look down over the ledge to your right, you'll find a small, stationary wooden platform just below you next to the pulley. Hop down there, then down another platform and turn around. You'll find a hidden alcove in the corner with a chest at the end. Drop down here and defeat the two Carcasses, then loot the Legion Plug from the chest. Take the pulley back up to the lever. When you look back towards the stairs, you'll find a Legion Magazine next to them on the right. Head back to the split and go up the ladder on the left. Go all the way to the end to find a Crescent Moonstone by the wall. A Carcass will climb up behind you. Defeat it then, progress through the gate.

As you open the gate, you'll find an item on a corpse at the far end of a suspiciously large room. As you approach the item, a Mutating Carcass will drop down from the ceiling. This type of Carcass is tough and can morph its right arm into a shield to protect itself from your attacks, or a mace to better bludgeon you with. After being defeated, it drops a piece of Quartz. You can then loot the corpse for some Cat Dust, and ascend the ladder on the right for a Vivid Ergo Fragment.

To proceed, head through the doorway on the right side of the room, next to the ladder. In the jailcell to the right is a chest containing a Krat Supply Box. These supply boxes can be given to Polendina at Hotel Krat to increase his Merchant wares. Exit the jailcell and at the end of the room is an elevator that takes you down to the St. Frangelico Cathedral Library.

 

Going Back for Missed Items

Now that you've gotten to the Library, you can activate the Stargazer to be able to teleport back here after visiting Hotel Krat to prepare for the rest of the cathedral and, as this section is going to cover, going back for the items we unlocked by removing the acid and changing the direction of the pulley system platforms. 

Teleport back to the St. Frangelico Cathedral Chapel Stargazer. If you've died before while trying to ascend the tall room, you may have already found that Giangio has moved to the altar nearby. While we don't have any Gold Coin Fruit to give him at the moment, it's worth remembering that he's now here in the Chapel for the near future.

Head back through the doorway on the left, and go forward like last time - through the hole in the floor, turn right and down the ladder. Now that the acid has been drained, you'll see a new stairway going down. Descend the steps and open the door at the bottom. Head through and turn right at the corner to find a chest in the next room. Within it, you'll be able to loot the Crafted Cryptic Vessel. Cryptic Vessels are special items that can be brought back to Venigni at Hotel Krat to learn of secret loot stashes. 

 

Cracking the Crafted Cryptic Vessel

Teleport back to Hotel Krat using the Moonphase Pocket Watch. You can use this opportunity to level up and upgrade your weapons, as well as hand over the Krat Supply Box to Polendina. Speak to Venigni and hand over the Crafted Cryptic Vessel. You'l be given back the Crafted Cryptic Vessel Decryption. If you read the first page, you'll be given very simple instructions - strike the puppet hanging from the Alchemist Bridge on Elysion Boulevard. Read a bit more to learn that striking the puppet will give you the address and key to a shelter prepared for someone called Adelina.

The Alchemist Bridge is where you fought the Mad Donkey. Teleport over to the Inside the House on Elysion Boulevard Stargazer. Head down the shortcut elevator and turn left when you exit the building to get to the Alchemist Bridge. Hanging from the first arch of the bridge, you'll find a strung up puppet with a sign saying 'Purge Puppets' on it. After having read the decryption, you will now be able to Lock On to the puppet and hit it with any Throwing Objects. The Letter with the Refugee's Address will fall onto the ground under it. If you read it, you'll get an address - Elysion Boulevard 221b.

Return to the Inside the House on Elysion Boulevard Stargazer, either by taking the elevator back up or by using the Moonphase Pocket Watch. Head out the doorway leading out to the balcony. Turn right and the apartment can be found on your right just as you cross the skinny wooden platform. Unlock the door to the apartment, and you can loot the safe within for a piece of Quartz and the Owl Doctor's Hunting Apparel.
