Alter is a Fable Art (Weapon Skill) in Lies of P. Alter is a Utility type weapon skill. Fable Arts are weapon skills bound to a weapon's handle or blade. These weapon skills consist of both offensive, defensive, and utility moves, each having distinct animations and effects when used.

AnonymousWith the Holy Sword of the Ark, how temporary is the Alter ability? Will it last until you use a Stargazer? Or can you use Alter again to put it back in its original form?

The stamina cost reduction buff seems to last about 15/sec. While in "long form" you can use the ability again to return to "short form."
Returning single-use damage buff. So it alternates between the two for the cost of 1 fable each. The stamina reduction being limited by timer and damage being limited by it only affecting one hit. (For Holy Sword of the Ark)
In addition, while extended, it appears to reduce the damage dealt and changes the moveset while in "long form" even after the stamina reduction wears off. So it's worth considering to swap back to short-hilt after the stamina buff wears off.
Lastly, despite it being labled as "long form" you actually have less range than in short form (because your character doesn't move as far forward when in long form which ends up with less range.)
This was all tested on the Holy Sword of the Ark.
