From initial descriptions I got the impression he would gain 'XP' or abilities as you consumed ergo or protection spells, slightly disappointed this mechanic was not given more attention

Am I crazy, or did we never learn anything about this guy at all? What and who was he? Where did he come from?
He seriously felt like the developers just lost interest or ran out of time and never bothered writing his story, but left him his banter to fill space.

I feel like Gemini is being used to force way too much intended feelings onto the player. I went to the ruined city and started to think "damn, that looks terrible" and he immediately said something like "damn that looks terrible", then in the end after choosing to relieve someone out of their misery I was like "****, was that the right thing?" and Gemini just said "I hope we did the right thing". He surely killed the moment of silent self-reflection several times
