Julian the Gentleman is an NPC in Lies of P. Julian is a resident whom you run into at Rosa Isabelle Street Culvert who will ask you to retrieve the body of his deceased wife. NPCs are non-playable characters that players encounter and can interact with throughout the course of the game. NPCs play an important role since they often provide helpful information, resources, and services that will help the player throughout their journey.

- This NPC can be found near a Stargazer at Rosa Isabelle Street Culvert. Look for the 2nd stargazer you encountered after defeating the White Lady.

Teleport your way to Rosa Isabelle Street Culvert Stargazer and eventually find Julian the Gentleman near the checkpoint and accept his quest to retrieve her late wife's belongings. Continue through the sewer entrance near where Julian stands. Pass the ladders and go through the tunnel. The Tunnel will lead you in two different directions. Head to the direction where the tunnel leads you to the surface and find yourself in an area full of chimney sweeper puppet ladies. Follow the series of stairs that leads you to the upper part of the area and if you see the Puppet with a rifle, you are in the correct direction.
Then cross the bridge near where the Puppet with a rifle was situated and down the stairs to find the corpse of a puppet lady leaning on the wall. This is Julian's wife. Collect the Wedding Ring and then return it to Julian. Choose "I've never seen that happen before." if you do not want to lie. Choose "I saw the message she left, saying she loves you" if you choose to tell a lie. If you lie to him, you'll get the Wedding Ring as a Recollection item, and the Sad Gesture, otherwise you won't obtain either item.

After killing Laxasia (or when you get the Ergo Wavelength Decoder from Vegnini, I really do not know which one since I only revisited after beating Laxasia), if you go back to Rosa Isabelle Street and to where the body of the puppet is, you see that there's now a message that you can interact with that reads "I love you, Julian."
Such a nice payoff to this otherwise minor quest, and it really reinforces how there truly are puppets whose "ego" awaken like Polendina and Pulcinella admit to you later on.
Finding this message on her body provides more nuance to the truth/lie system in the game: once you first see the body and collect the wedding ring from it and talk to Julian, if choose to tell him that she loved him and that there was a message it counts as a "lie" but it actually isn't because the message from his wife is there in the end. I love this game.

I was actually very pleased to see he was an actual character in the game after reading the newspaper item about him in chapter 3. Honestly I thought he was a bit crazy and just told him a lie to make him feel better. But after going through the game I think we can actually say that his puppet wife had an awakened ego(Like Polendina) and they truly did fall in love with each other. It still might not be true and maybe he was actually just crazy, but I like to think his puppet wife was actually sentient and loved him, only because it makes for a better narrative and tragedy in the story. :(

Told him the truth (Never seen that before) and didn't receive any of the items.

Going back to the puppet wife body to see the writing after saving test subject 826 actually made me kinda sad and mushy. Loving this game

What dialogue does he say if you lied to him? I'm not sure if I lied or told the truth since I briefly went to the playstation menu. The choice timer doesn't stop when pausing and I wish it did.
Pity there's no option to bring the body to Venigni, he might be able to revive her like he did with Pulcinella.
