Etiquette is a Special Weapon (Boss Weapon) in Lies of P. Etiquette is a dagger weapon that cannot be disassembled, it can be obtained by giving the Broken Hero's Ergo to Alidoro. Boss Weapons or Special Weapons are weapons derived from the unique Bosses encountered in Lies of P. These are acquired by providing boss-type Ergo items to a special merchant, Alidoro.

A self-defense weapon adored by the leader of the Bastards. It can be disguised as an umbrella, but it bares its teeth in the moment of attack.

Social dignity can be seen not only in the ballroom but also on the battlefield. The leader of the Bastards did not lose his poise on either stage.

weak by itself, needs arm of god and extreme modification amulets late game new game+ to be good. hard to compete with two dragons, but if you like stabbing swords instead of slashing, this is the umbrella for you.

The damage might suck, BUT you look like a prince with this weapon because if it wasn't flash it might have well not happened

i am extremely happy with this weapon. it's super quick, staggers quickly and has reach. when i struggle with bosses with any other weapon, i just bring out the umbrella. this is worth investing materials to upgrade

I destroyed all late half bosses without learning their patterns. just dodge r1 dodge r1. infuse it when needed. it will definitely carry you through the game like fire longsword in ds2 or bloodhound in Elden ring or Vordt's great hammer in ds3. this game feels like Fromsoftware designed it.

Its a drip weapon for gentlemen, though it gets overshadowed by two dragons. Its charged attack can double up as block or parry with a follow up stab.

One thing that frequently gets overlooked with this weapon is that it's one of only two weapons in the game that can get S scaling on Technique, and the only other one isn't available until much later. This means that on Technique-heavy builds, this can outperform the other "fast options" (Boost Glaive handle with a light-ish blade, Wintry Rapier, etc.) until you get Two Dragons Sword (which just outclasses Etiquette in every way).

One advantage this weapon has that frequently gets overlooked is that it's one of only two weapons in the game that can get pushed to S Technique scaling, and the other isn't available until much later. This means that, on high technique builds, this weapon outperforms just about everything else until Two Dragons Sword becomes available.

                  • Used Etiquette for the entirety of my first playthrough from the moment I got it- finished with it summonless (aside from the black rabbit brotherhood remath- that broke me)
In my opinion, this thing is kind of dog water. But at the same time it's one of the coolest and most unique weapons in the game. So here are some tips from what I could father in my run:
This weapons main gimmick is the umbrella opening up as a (significantly) weaker version of the Aegis shield. You may think this means the best way to use this weapon is to constantly do charged heavy attacks and running attacks. I would not advise this. Your bread and butter is still gonna be your light attacks- they're incredibly fast and (this will be a theme with the rest of the weapon) safe, due to they're low recovery and therefore clmmitment, low stamina cost and decent range. You should be doing these constantly, whenever you can- ideally boosted by Victors boss amulet, which I consider a MUST for this weapon.

So, when should you use the charged heavy? You CAN just throw this out whenever if you want, and you might not get punished too hard sometimes. But if you wanna use this weapon to it's max potential, you'll wanna learn how to use these strategically. The way I would recommend doing that is learning when in each individual boss and enemy moveset you can sneak in a charged heavy between dodging/parrying and be able to block/parry with the umbrella to stay safe afterwards. This weapon allows you to take things that would usually be massive risks and make them relatively safe- albeit for worse reward and with the drawback of requiring both technical knowledge and skill in timing it so you hit the sweet spot of the umbrella- after the charged heavy comes out and the umbrella opens, but before it starts to close in its recovery animation- during which you can no longer block or parry OR dodge.
This might sound like a tall order and- truthfully- it is. I imagine we won't find this weapons max potential for a long time, given how specific and technical it is to make work.
The best attack I've found that demonstrates this idea to get you started is with archbishop Andreus. He has an attack string where his monster half slams his fist down, then attacks you with his other hand with a swipe. If you perfect parry the slam, you can followup with a fully charged heavy and alwahs 100% consistently get a charged heavy in time that allows you to safely parry the follow-up swipe.
Another example I've found, albeit much harder and less consistent: At certain points during Laxasias uppercut and slam chains you can throw out a charged heavy that allows you to block the follow-up attacks. I haven't done enough testing to know the exact whens and how's, however.
The other use for the charge heavy is when you see a boss start up a slow attack you know is coming, which you can counter by doing a charged heavy in time to block afterward. This is more inconsistent however, as it requires manual timing on your part- very SPECIFIC manual timing.
As for the other attack that opens up the umbrella: Don't bother with the running heavy. It does so little damage and the umbrella closes so fast- sending you into vulnerable recovery frames- that it's just never worth it. If anyone finds a counter example of this that shows it actually is useful, please tell me in a reply- id love to know if this thing can be further optimized.

Next up is the fable arts. Starting with your big one, this is a slow heavy damage dealer that's great for stance breaking safely. It has IMMACULATE range, and so you can back off while a boss whiffs a bunch of attacks across the arena, and then hit them with it to either break their stance with near zero risk or just get off the insane damage this fable provides. The one drawback is that it has a long startup, slow recovery and (the big one) requires three fable slots. Expensive, but often worth it. Don't be afraid to make use of this- it's one of your best tools with this pile of garbage.
Your second fable art is a counter- fairly standard in all but one way. Where as other counters require very precise timing, this actually has a VERY generous window for you to get hit during that will allow you still get the counter off. This is great for when you safely wanna counter an attack- usually a fury attack- that you don't know the parry timing on. (Best example for me is nameless puppets ****ing freakish slide-across-half-the-arena fury attack)
This fable only costs two slots and allows you to counter attacks with next to know risk of timing required. Only thing to watch out for: The followup DOES NOT have hyper armor, although it may have SOME i-frames, I'm not sure. So, you have to be a LITTLE safe when using it. But otherwise, it's an incredibly easy to utilize and powerful fable- go nuts with it, or save it for big dangerous attacks you don't think you can parry, your choice.
Overall, the biggest theme of this weapon is safety. It is low risk with low reward, if you know what you're doing. The low commitment of the light attacks, combined with the gimmick of the umbrella shield, combined with the fable range and counter make for a weapon that will never open you up to risks while netting you opportunities other weapons just don't get if you know how to use it. That's a big if, mind you- it's bold but I would say this weapon has the highest skill floor and ceiling of any of the special weapons. I understand if you disagree, but even then I think most would concede it's certainly up there. It's a hard weapon to utilize efficiently- but when you do... well other weapons still outclass it, but like... it's an umbrella- youre using this to style on thr enemy, not be the most effective you can. And this weapon lets you show off your skill like no other can.
So, with all that out of the way- let me tell you this drawbacks this weapon faces.
First and most obviously, low damage. This is the price it pays for being so safe- you get to take more opportunities for less risk, but in turn you get much lower reward. This can be mitigated however- my suggested amulet loadout for this weapon is Victors amulet, Fuocos amulet and your choice of another amulet depending on your playstyle- personally I invest heavily in fable slots so I like Watchmen and Simon amulets for this thing. Your damage will still be low with this, but it's at least mitigated somewhat with these options- even encouraging some extra risk with Victors amulet.

Secondly, it's range. Now I know this sounds strange given the above paragraphs, so let me explain. While the fable art has incredible range and the lights have semi-above average range, the rest of the weapon is awful for range. The charged heavy doesn't have the extra steps forward you get from the regular wintrys rapier charhed heavy- so you only get the effective range of your umbrella, which really isn't much. This leads to a weird dichotomy where you don't want to get too close because you want to stay safe utilizing your light range, but you also need to be right up in someone's face to utilize your premier gimmick: The charged heavies. (This lack of range is also why I advise against using the running heavy)
The weapon is rather fable intensive. I'd really recommend investing in fable buildup and slots for this thing- as it's two fable arts are three and two slots respectively. While you can use the umbrella counter to just perfectly block an attack temporarily, if you wanna get good use out of it you really oughta just throw out the counter for the extra fable slot.
Lastly- while we don't know yet since we're still learning the game, and haven't completely mastered it inside and out yet- I worry this weapons gimmick just isn't useful in 99% of situations. I've found very few situations where you can consistently use the Umbrella to safely pull of a charged heavy- due to how specific the timing for it is. That sweet spot seemingly just doesn't exist in between most bosses attack chains, and is especially hard to find and consistently do in bosses slower attacks. It's possible we just haven't found these sweet spots, but I'm worried that they just don't really exist.
If I were to change this weapon to make it more useful: I would change it so that the umbrella stays open as long as you hold down the heavy button agtee a charge- letting you oarry the entirety of the time it's open. This is pretty much what Aegis does- albeit much, much better- since you can attack with Aegis up. So as to not render Aegis obsolete, I wouldn't recommend letting people do that while the umbrella- instead, they just hold it open and don't recover stamina while they do. They can have limited movement during the opening- letting them slowly walk from place to place with it open, and ideally letting them dodge out of the stance to add some extra utility and expression. If you just held the umbrella open and let it block you'd still take chip and lose stamina like normal, so I don't think this would be anywhere near overpowered.
The only other change id suggest is upping the weapons fable charge rare and making it so the three bar fable attacks blocks attacks while it's active- given that the umbrella opens up during it's animation.

Lastly, onto the build setup id recommend for this.

I recommend investing heavily in fables, as mentioned before, but I'd also recommend investing in skills that boost your perfect guard capabilities and the effects of your charge r2. These are the two things you'll be using most in combination with your light attacks, so you'll likely find the most utility out of these.

That's it for me. I hope this helped any would be Bastards- and happy running through the game with this absolute Garbo of a weapon :>

I found a detail that I believe to be completely unique to this weapon (and completely broken too). While the umbrella shield is out you can perfect guard. So you can pull off a full heavy attack with absolutely 0 punishment (provided you're good at perfect guarding) which is INSANE.

Damage seems low, but umbrella can block when you use the strong attack.
So, oddly, the umbrella is a tanky weapon.
