Champion Victor Fight Strategy

During this encounter, Victor relies on mostly traditional strength and fighting attacks that involve a lot of punching and pummelling. Champion Victor may start off the fight by charging at the player to deliver his first punch, he will then follow up with a number of hits and swings. The animation for these attacks happens quite quickly and unlike other beefy bosses, he does not take as long to wind up before his attacks. You can expect that if you're in range, he will begin to start throwing punches. If you summoned a specter, there is a chance he will focus his attacks on the specter instead, allowing you to hug the area behind him. He doesn't have a lot of large-range attacks and most of his attacks will affect the area directly in front of him. Although his pre-attack animations are not as easy to spot, his attack sets are limited so you still know what to expect. Allow him to attack and defend, block, or avoid them before following up with your attacks. Some of his larger punches will have a more obvious wind-up, allowing you to step out of the way.

One attack to watch out for, which can turn into a Fury Attack, is his grab attack which will get drawn out if caught in it. As soon as he gets a hold of you, he will hold you still while his other fist will continue to deliver repeated punches, forcing you to take a lot of damage without means to escape this attack until it is completed. When his HP bar glows white, you'll be able to stagger. Pull out your attack combos or charge your attacks to knock him down and you will be able to follow up with the Fatal Attack.

Phase 2

During the second phase, he removes his attachments but will display a similar set of actions, still throwing punches and charging at players. When he advances while thrashing, continue to back up and wait for the attack to end then swing your weapon back at him. Keep your distance, as he continues to advance and play aggressively in between his attacks, and stagger him any chance you get until the fight is over.

Champion Victor Attacks & Counters

Attack Description Counter
Charge attack The Champion runs at the player to deliver a punch. In Phase 2, he will charge multiple times before stopping. Run out of range of this attack. You can prepare for his attack once he reaches proximity.
Hook swing A regular punch from the side.  Block or dodge this attack.
Uppercut Punch An uppercut punch delivered from below, punching upward.  Avoid this attack by backing up as he pulls back his arm.
Stomp Victor Stomps down his foot. In Phase 2, he will follow up with a second stomp. Dodge away backwards and wait for his follow-up attack.
Pummel A combination of punches. Victor can advance forward while striking repeatedly. This can also be performed as a Fury Attack.  Hold your block for this combo move or continuously move back and wait for this attack to finish.
Champion's Beatdown

A five hit combo: A jab, then a Fury sweep, hook, and a second Fury sweep in quick succession, then another jab.

Before doing the attack, he will slowly walk forward, clenching his fist while sometimes (but not always) delivering a voiceline.

Carefully time your block or dodges as needed.
Smash With bost fists, Victor throws his fists on the ground in front of him.  Quickly dodge this attack by backing up.
Jump Punch Victor leaps and follows up with a punch When he jumps, this is your chance to dodge toward him to reposition yourself.
Jump stomp Victor leaps and follows up with a stomp Dodge to the side and follow up with an attack.
Grab Attack Victor can grab you and hold you in place while repeatedly punching you, and then finish off the attack with a stomp. Victor will hold a post with his palms up right before this attack, so you will be able to move away quickly before he reaches out for the grab.
Stagger Counter [Second Phase] After getting staggered, Victor will fake entering the Stagger animation in an attempt to lure you in before getting up and punching the ground in front of him. Your Fatal Attack opportunity will open up after the fake out. Until then, be patient and stay out of range or (if you're feeling confident) land some quick hits before blocking the strike.

Damn actually didnt mind doing this like 100 times, just a normal fight without a giant hitbox feels fun to fight.

Is this guy not a Carcass? Bro blue and everything but it says Human? Also, is it just me or is the elite enemy right before this boss a cooler fight?

        • Anonymous

By far one of the best bosses, Simple doesn't mean bad boss design, and Victor shows that! just good old fashioned punching with a single health bar and no super flashy moves for stylish looks, Just gets right to the point and sh*t talks you while doing so.

          • Anonymous

I love how some of these posts turn into a gamer **** waving contest. No girl is gonna suck your **** cause you can parry well. Just sayin

            • Anonymous

A complete no nonsense boss. Single hp bar with half health transition, good charge attack windows for all weapon types and no excessive flashy attacks! Just a man ready to beat the living hell out of you, love his goofy dialogue.

              • Anonymous

This guy deserves better voice actor or better lines, this would be such epic duel in ye olde strongman competition instead he sounds like some dude dying of boredom on his 3rd night shift

I thought that either I was terrible at this game or everyone else was just cracked, until I saw a comment saying to give up on parrying him and to focus on dodging instead. I've been trying to full-focus on parrying and the moment I swapped to primarily dodging, I beat him that very same try!

It's almost funny considering how bad he was kicking my ass before, haha. If anyone else is trying to Sekiro this boss, good luck, but dodging seems to be the way to go!

                  • Anonymous

Found him rather easy and fun as long as you are patient. He is relatively easy to learn to parry as his movepool is pretty shallow and his mixup combos have pretty obvious visual tells. Dodging around him or dodging straight back can be a little riskier since his reach is quite long, but his damage isn't too bad. Phase 2 isn't substantially different and he doesn't have much to close gaps quickly with so you can run away, get some breathing room, heal up, and calm down before engaging again. Pretty reminiscent of godfrey/hoarah loux (neither of these boss duos have grabs that are hard to dodge, imo) but the ER boys have a lot of annoying aoe ground pounds and are a bit faster.

                    • Anonymous

Got him second try, rapier +7, yay dodging to my left / his right. If you're used to dodging you can easily get through phase 1 without taking any damage. Phase 2 I needed some pulse cells but it's still just dodging and poking.

I'd say he's about as difficult as Romeo, way less difficult than most of the bosses so far (again, assuming you're decent at dodging).

                      • Anonymous

I beat this boss in two tries and I was surprised considering King of Puppets/Romeo beat my ass for a good bit until I learned all the parry timings.

I got my butt kicked going through Lorenzini Arcade and Grand Exhibition and clearing the enemies, the enemy placement at the exhibition (fighting the shield dudes while puppets throw electric bombs at you as well as the gank fights with the sword dudes and robot looking puppet) and the decay areas and the amount of elite carcasses at the arcade had me tearing my hair out. I enjoyed it though but I expected the boss for this area to be just as painful and I was surprised when it wasn't.

Champion Victor is actually a fun boss no matter how you play (parry or dodge) but it feels infinitely better when you just dodge. He's literally Godfrey/Hourah Loux considering you can just abuse the fact you can strafe him to the right and avoid most of his attacks; even his dash attacks and unblockable move are very telegraphed and have a long wide up time and can be easily dodged, and they lead into long ass punish windows where you can get a fully charged attack in (plus a couple light ones if you are using a weapon that isn't heavy).

I enjoyed the Hourah Loux fight for what it was, but I have to admit that Champion Victor is so much more fun because I don't have to worry about getting divebombed with two AOE follow-ups that affect the entire arena.

I fought this guy using a technique build using the beginner Wintry Rapier (I had it at +6) weapon if you choose the Path of the Bastard class in the beginning and it was pretty good, I did not even use any grindstone buffs, wishstones or throwing items. A light weapon is amazing against this guy considering his combos leave him super vulnerable as well as his regular attacks (especially the hulk smash move). I would say that all you really have to worry about is his unblockable attack since it's a 4 hit combo that knocks you into the air but like I said earlier it's super telegraphed and easily dodged/dashed from - you can even strafe it lmao.

I haven't finished the game yet, and about to enter the Barren Swamp, but so far Champion Victor along with the Eldest of the Black Rabbit Brotherhood boss fights were the best for me.

                        • Anonymous

I beat this boss second try which was surprising to me. I struggled clearing the Grand Exhibition area along with the Lorenzini Arcade as a whole though; the carcass enemies and decay areas beat my ass, and the enemy placement at the Grand Exhibition had me banging my head (the shield dude on the support beams with the puppets that throw bombs at you were the worst).

This boss becomes so much easier when you don't try to parry and just hug his right side and dodge, and I will say this is the only enemy so far that I think parrying is sort of worthless (this might change as I still have to finish the game and I am going to fight this guy in NG+ while parrying).

If you've played Elden Ring and fought Godfrey/Hourah Loux, the same strat for that boss is kinda applicable minus the jumping: hug his right side and just dodge/dash to the right whenever the Champion Victor does the dash attacks. Even his red unblockable attack can be dodged altogether, and if you strafe enough during that move he just straight dashes and there is a big window to punish. The same is true for when he does his hulk smash move where he uses both hands to hit the ground.

Although this definitely will vary depending on your build, I fought this guy with the Wintry Rapier (I was able to just strafe him and poke him, then do charged attacks whenever he did moves that had huge punish windows) because I just don't like the many of the other weapons in this game, stamina regen is so slow that it's a pain playing with bigger weapons.

                          • Anonymous

I must be hot garbage at this game lmao. I've struggled with every boss (Victor hasn't been any different) and I consider myself a "souls veteran". Humbling to say the least.

                            • Anonymous

i feel like most bosses with two phases would have benefitted from the victor treatment where instead of two health bars they get one bigger health bar and they'll phase change half way through

                              • Anonymous

...I don't see it. I don't see the difficulty others are having, though I will admit Victor puts out some spicy damage and is a total health meatwall.
Maybe it's just because by the time I've gotten to him through the whole-ass exhibition hall, my dodge-brain is in full swing. I've noticed that Victor suffers *hard* from dodging his junk instead of trying to parry it. Even his fury attack is moderately easy to 'dodge' by just not being there since he seems to snapshot where you are instead of factoring in dodges.
The big thing is to dodge to your right mostly, and watch out for putting yourself between a wall and him since it'll shorten the time between bull-rush punches to the point it can leave you out of time to dodge again.

I felt bad for Victor. Even though we weakened him he was ultimately killed by his creators. By those he swore absolute loyalty to.

                                  • Anonymous

I think the devs forgot about the concept of "or" when designing Victor and went all in on "and".

                                    He's tanky.

                                    And fast.

                                    And does big damage.

                                    And has gap closers.

                                    And has high poise.

                                    And has long reach.

                                    And has combo'd unblockables.

                                    And has delayed attacks.

                                    And has a grab.

                                    And has knockbacks.

                                    And has a knock up.

                                    And has a second phase.

And has no weapon to break.

                                    And has high poise.

The tough enemy bingo card doesn't just have a line, it's completely filled in.

Make sure your equipment are maxing Physical damage reduction and Striking damage. No need for the Puppet Amulet either. Acid might work for the first phase.

Decent and pretty straightforward boss — I find it easy to kite him and punish with a heavy attack when he punches the ground.

                                      • Anonymous

From what i can tell he is weak to Acid in 1st phase, and honestly doesn't seem that weak to fire in phase 2. I suspect he still counts as human and therefore still weaker to acid tbh

the correct amulet is the "MURDERER PUPPET'S AMULET" to increase damage against the boss, so I think it is correct to say that he is not a carcass?

I had trouble with him on my first playtrough, but with the 2 dragon blade he was super easy. Most moves have the perfect time before he hits you to do your heavy and parry his attacks.

Here's a tip for most of the bosses I've realized that this boss kind of taught me, for mechanical bosses use more blocking and parrying because of the long windups and heavily telegraphed attacks whereas fleshy bosses use more dodging because of their erratic movesets and large attack windows afterword.

                                              • Anonymous

Victor isn't like Hoarah Loux. Not even close. The First Elden Lord made me want to hit the gym, this guy makes me want to hit my wife

This boss is legitimately sick. Spent an hour, or two on it. Really tough, but feels mostly fair. Like a lot of bosses so far in this game. Felt like a more fair hoarah loux, and almost just as awesome looking.

                                                  • Anonymous

Anyone else's heart stop when Simon walked in and the third cutscene played? After the Archbishop, Black Rabbit Eldest and King of Puppets I fully expected an entire second health bar or back up. I was pleasantly surprised that it was just a one and done boss.

                                                    • Anonymous

Kinda funny how player experiences vary so much. Someone said this was one of the easiest bosses in the game, but it's the hardest boss yet for me for sure.
I suck at timing perfect guards (I get them right 10% of the time at most), and it doesn't exactly help that this dude is the tankiest boss so far by a wide margin. I can barely make a dent on him with my +8 weapon, and the specter usually dies before phase 2 even starts, so it isn't much help.

                                                      • Anonymous

This boss was a pure jumpscare, I didn't expect to see a 800 kg 7'3 tall man sprinting at me with no intent of stopping instantly after the cutscene
