Mad Clown Puppet Fight Strategy

The Best Tips for Mad Clown Puppet:

The Mad Clown is encountered on a slope to the Opera House. You can draw him out to change the combat area you fight him. When you approach the Mad Clown, you're going to want to hug its backside since his moves are reliant on forward punch until he begins to twirl. He uses a combination of different types of punches in subsequent attacks and will alternate between his left-hook and right-hook punches. He has a limited set of attacks that are mostly short-ranged and directed in front of him. Aside from his attacks, the road he is encountered on is burning and covered in flames so be aware of where you step or run into to avoid Overheating and taking unnecessary damage.

If you want to keep a distance, he has a ranged punch attack that can be baited. Draw it out to force him to use this attack, and it will be followed by a long recovery period. This will give you time to deal a charged attack. You can try to continue this pattern if it works out for you and accompany it with additional items to further deplete his HP.

Watch out for his wind-up animation as he prepares for a stronger attack or a spinning attack where his arm will extend as he twirls and continues to punch any nearby object within range. As he twirls, he will also be able to reposition toward you, so back away while this action is playing out. If you're within proximity and he begins the attack, you will be able to hold your block button to block his continuous punch until you find an opening to back away.

Another longer-range attack that has the ability to knock you over is his lunge attack. He will draw back his body and throw it out at you belly first for this attack, throwing himself at quite a distance. This will have the ability to land on you or knock you over if you do not step out of the way for this attack.

If you keep too far of a distance, he can use his ranged attack where he throws his punch and it extends before retracting so he can try again. For all of his basic attacks, he will have a visible windup or a brief delay before entering his attack allowing you to dodge or block them.Like most other Bosses or enemies, he will have fury attack that will be undodgeable and must be countered with a perfect guard. Be ready to parry or distance yourself once he turns red. Watch out for when his boss bar turns white since you will be able to easily stagger him with a charged attack, rendering him vulnerable for all your following attacks.  Throughout the fight, his clunky movements should allow you to react accordingly to any incoming attacks and reposition behind him to sneak in a few attacks of your own in between his animations. Repeat as needed until his boss bar is depleted.

Mad Clown Puppet Attacks & Counters

Attack Description Counter
One-Two Punch The Clown throws his hands and starts swinging at you, alternating between the left and right hand  Avoid being at his front to avoid taking damage from this attack. They can also be blocked or dodged.
Uppercut punch A basic uppercut punch that can be dealt alone or followed up with another melee attack Block or dodge this attack.
Belly Thrust A lunging attack where the Mad Clown thrusts himself belly first in your direction. This attack has the ability to knock you over. If you can anticipate it
Arm Twirl The Clown winds up before he throws out his arm and begins to twirl while his arm is extended, smacking thing in range. The Clown can continue to advance toward you as he twirls.  Quickly distance yourself and continue to back up as he advances or hold the block button if you can't get away.
Smash The Mad Clown takes two fists and smashes them both on the ground ahead of you.  Quickly dodge away since this attack has a bigger impact area than his regular punches.
Throws a Punch He quite literally throws a punch that extends into a ranged attack  You will be able to see the direction of the punch once it is deployed. Sidestep away from the target direction.
Fury attack When enemies become red, they can use a Fury attack that can't be dodged. He can lace his punches with fury, making them more dangerous and difficult to counter. The only way to counter these attacks would be to keep a distance or to counter with a Perfect Guard.

Fight Mad Clown Puppet on side. Either MCP on level above you, or you on top and MCP below. Way to cheese, and easier to dodge/avoid damage

This an jester are worst enemys all along. Super aggressive hard to read moves. Best is trow all the shice you have on him an hope hes dead after.

I don't understand how to fight this guy, he just seems to self-heal very quickly. Oh look, I got him down to half... 30 second later he's back to 75%. WTF is this buggy crap...

          • Anonymous

I’m not sure if I’m stupid but don’t you technically encounter him twice once on Rosa Isabelle Street and the other in the Barren Swamp

            • This has been, by far, the worst enemy in the game. If I wasn't absolutely determined to beat this trash I would have quit here and never looked back. This piece of **** needs adjusted.

You can do a lot of work with the fulminis. Starting from the stargazer behind him. You could start that fight with a fully charged blast. Then hug corners, charging it up as he approaches.

I would rather fight any 3 bosses the game has thrown at me up to this point than this ****ing thing. His hit tracking is absolutely insane, he can tank through anything, and his damage is obnoxious.

                  • Anonymous

he´s not hard at all if you run past him and activate the stargazer first. Its just that failing to parry/dodge sucks cause then you´re losing to an actual clown

                    • Anonymous

This guy sucks, but he's not that hard if you run past him to the checkpoint, you can use one of the rings of bushes in the courtyard to bait him in circles while you jab and dodge, works best with a weapon with a thrust attack, just keep him moving around the bushes and you drastically reduce his threat level, you can even hide behind the statue in the bushes if he throws a spring punch.

boss was annoying but beat him with elec coil and booster glaive handle, mainly charged r2s and parrying his wind up punch. if he starts to spin run away from him similar to malenia's dumb tracking attack lol

                        • this boss was TRRRAASSSHHHHH. after dying a kazilloon times, i finally just implemented the "ring around the rosie" strategy of kiting him around all of the garden fixtures trying to bait the boxing glove spring toss move to punish. lol. took like 15 minutes, but it was a sound strategy.

Probably one of the TOP-hardest PUPPET Mini-Bosses, took me some Research+Training to consistently Kill him.
But here are my Tips to consistently kill Him with 4 different Builds on NG and NG+

Step 1: Inflict Electric Status on it using 2-3 Throwing Cells or Fulminis

Step 2: Abuse the Hell out of Sprinting Sideways and Bait out :

a.) his THROWING FIST PUNCH = run sideways in mid distance (RIGHT), Running Attack / Charged Heavy INTO Disengage + Re-position LEFT (He will most likely attack with his 3x Combo OR Ballerina Spinning Charge - both start with his left (From your view right) Arm)

b.) his Belly Flop (after he steps backwards, ducks down and laughs) = Outrange by Sprint / Dodge Sideways INTO 1-2 Charged Heavy (Stagger?) INTO Disengage backwards + Re-position RIGHT (He will VERY likely go THROWING FIST PUNCH -> Look @ a).)

Step 3: Abuse Corners, Walls and Objects (Trees, Lantern Posts, Pillars) during THROWING FIST PUNCH to Cover yourself and Safely Heal and use Items.
(Having a cleared Environment, a pre-set Disengageing Route and No other Enemys to Fight or run into is KEY)

Step 4: Punish every 3rd Stagger (When he flnches from Posture Damage - The HP-Bar does NOT need to be WHITE) with any 3-Cost FABLE ART to 100% get him KNOCKED DOWN + Open to "Deady / Critical / Visceral / Finisher" Attack

DONT fight this Boss in the Areas where you engage him -> Running back- or forward and kiting him to a Shotcut/Stargazer is HIGHLY recommended!
                            GL + "HF" :D :D :D

                            • Anonymous

This one was actually a really fun fight. Just make sure to clear the flamethrower guys and fight him on the bottom. Fulminus legion arm is great for electric damage + Electric grindstone. You can try to put in some Shot Put's. They do great for stagger damage. 470 Ergo at the black market merchant. Dont try to dodge anything, he has some annoying tracking. Try to parry all his attacks to build up his stagger. Try to keep to his right side as his belly attack will miss most of the time. Good luck and happy hunting

You can run all the way to the top, past and behind the boss and get a stargazer (be quick and run all the way to the courtyard), so you dont have to clear the adds all the time. Easier to fight him repeatedly. And also, try parrying him if that helps, it sure helped me, since his attacks are pretty easy to read.

                                • Anonymous

In all seriousness, clear out the adds then bait him to the bottom of the street by the carriage on fire. If you round the corner you'll lose aggro and he'll start heading back up the street which is perfect for the strategy I'm about to mention.

Keep your distance and bait out the spring arm punch. It has a looong recovery period where you can swoop in and get a charged heavy and an r1 before bouncing back out of range. If you get the timing down, you can chain bait that spring punch and deal some massive damage. I would also recommend spacing out some status effects to hurry it along. I went with overheat and used thermite to get it started when he would de aggro and head up the street. Then switched to the fire grind stone once I fell into the rhythm of bait/hit/withdraw. Only took about 3 minutes.
