Eliminating Bosses will usually cause them to drop rare Ergo. The Ergo you obtain by defeating a boss is extremely valuable. Players will eventually be able to use these to exchange them for special Weapons and Amulets. Defeat him to gain the Scrapped Watchman Achievement.

Scrapped Watchman Fight Strategy

The Best Tips for Scrapped Watchman:

The Scrapped Watchman relies on his long arms for most of his attacks and movements. He is able to jump back and forward quickly to close distances and follow up with a Melee Strike from his arm. His attacks can come in a variety of directions, striking down or sweeping to the side with either his left or right arm, or both for a downward slam. Each of these attacks is followed by a short opening as he cools down before his next attack, allowing you to approach and deal a standard combo of attacks. At the very beginning, get a head start by immediately running in and immediately attack him head-on. As he starts his attacks move to the opposite sides of the arm that lifts. If you can, you can also try to dodge toward him to get underneath which will put you in a good position to deal additional attacks. During this sequence of the fight, try to keep within range of him and play aggressively for a chance to stagger him. If you are too far, he will lunge forward by leaping up and charging down. Block or dodge these then, in between each attack, run in and hit him a few times.

When he begins to glow red, he is ready to deal a Fury Attack that can't be dodged, so you will need to avoid him during this period or get ready and time your guard for a Perfect Guard. Another attack to watch out for is when he slowly draws his arm back. He is preparing for a grab attack, and if you're caught in its grasp, he will follow through with a damaging combo movement that will deal significant damage.

The second phase of the fight begins when he reaches about halfway of his health. He will begin to emit Electricity that can apply the Electric Shock status effect when hit. His basic melee attacks will now be laced with an electric current and he will have some new added attacks allowing him to emit an AoE shock attack. He can now wind up his attacks or leap in the air which will result in a landing that will emit more shock. Apply the same treatment. When he is busy emitting shock, you can even run underneath him and reposition behind him to continue to attack. Be patient with your hits and play aggressively in between his attacks until his health is depleted.

Scrapped Watchman Attacks & Counters

Attack Description Counter
Melee Strike/ Smash / Sweep A basic attack movement where he uses either his left or right arm to sweep, strike, or smash in a variety of directions.  Watch his arm draw back to anticipate the movement direction and avoid the attack area.
Wind up attacks Also indicated with his arm drawn back as he jumped back. This is the main difference between this attack and the grab attack. He will then lunge forward with a melee attack. You can dodge toward him to avoid damage and get yourself in a better position to follow up with an attack.
Jump Lunge If you distance yourself, the Watchman will leap up and charge forward to close the distance. This movement may be followed up directly with a melee attack in a combo,  Back away and get ready to run in with a follow-up attack once he completes his movement.
Electric Shock AoE He begins to charge up electricity and has a radial AoE. Back away to avoid its effects.
Grab Attack A very damaging attack where he will reach out and grab players and proceed to pummel them to the ground.  This attack gives you some time to reach as he slowly draws his arm back before he reaches to grab. Try to guard or step away from this attack.
Ranged Electric Shock During the second phase of the fight, he can shoot out a shock with one of his arms.  Dodge to either side of the direction of these attacks to avoid damage.
Electric Rain The Scrapped Watchman begins to send beams of shock spread through the arena.  While this is in action, you can take cover beneath him and reposition behind him to continue to attack aggressively.

Fun boss in general, learning to deflect the multi-swing combo gives you a taste of the good stuff that comes later. The grab sucks though. You're either underequipped to handle it on NG, or it deals excessive damage on NG+2; NG+1 is the only case where it's fine.

I used the spectre on my current new game run—after soloing all bosses on NG+2 last month—and it was worth it. At the end of the day, my time on this Earth is limited and I can't afford to spend it on a single boss' grab attack. (I'd rather be spending it on Romeo, the rabbits, or Laxasia.)

i just beat him after 4 try and seriously some of his attack and move are unpredictable and unfair on the first try i think than he had Too many wind-ups and snap animations, and the saddest thing is than it seem to be one of the best boss in the game

I think this boss is great on every aspect, except the grab. The grab isn't difficult to avoid, but when you have such a refined gameplay and combat system, implementing unblockable grabs that remove a large amount of health feels a little bit lazy.
Other than that, great boss, pretty fun when you know how to parry him.

I think he's my favorite boss. He's fun to fight and I like his design and his backstory.

He was apparently self-aware before the Puppet Frenzy. His creators abandoned him because they thought he was a failed experiment, but the children loved him and he loved them. Not seeing them anymore must have driven him mad.

This boss helped me get better at parrying. I find it a lot easier to get the parry timing in nioh 2 and bloodborne, but after continuing to fight this boss while trying to parry, I got better at it. Still, I only managed to parry his red attack a couple of times. The lag puppets have before attacks still throws me off. Also, haha, after a dozen attempts I realized that the reason my stamina took so painfully long to recover was because I was rocking a 'slightly heavy' equip load. after that he became a lot more manageable. Kept dying at the end because he grabbed me when I had no heals and 70% hp, which got me down to 10%, after which he would attack, I tried to parry, but missed the timing and died from chip damage. It was satisfying in the end though, because on my winning attempt I managed to parry a lot of his attacks including some of hsi red ones, and my final blow was the critical after breaking his stance. Fun boss.

He mentions Toma in the fight, and you can actually speak to Toma before the fight through a window. He mentions Murphy by name, and that he is a puppet, and that he misses the times they managed to play together. It's really interesting how the story bits are sprinkled in the game.

A great boss to learn parry from, his spinning arm combo and his rapid hooks is a solid pattern that is repeated during phase 1 and 2. The rhythm is fairly consistent and with time, you will get it. At the start, the best you can nail is weapon +2, its not the best really, takes forever to r1 him down... but it'll have to do. Focus on building stagger damage with charge attacks or perfect guards and getting fatal attacks to make up for piddly r1 damage.

Level as much as needed if you struggle. Switching to a blunt weapon, such as police baton will also help, he takes more damage from that. You can also farm the enemies near the boss area for star fragments to keep calling help if needed. Esp the big enemy near the baby puppet.

If you are a rapier but you struggle, you can boost your block and dodge by switching the blade with the great sword of fate's blade. Its the only other blade that supports stab movesets this early and its guard and base attack is much better than the winter saber. I can say the same for the fable art.

Definitely one of my favorite bosses in the game... phase 2 encourages both block and dodge considering his pesky grab and lingering lightning mine.
The mines take maybe 2 seconds to explode, you can just walk out of it. The grab is a sharp left side hook but its not very extended, some back step will handle it, but rolling towards the hook will be very tight timing.

Phase 1: block+dodge to slide under most attacks. Hit and run tactics.

Phase 2: use an attribute resistance item and carefully follow Phase 1 tactics.

Helps to level up vitality to increase max health and increase stamina too.

Took me waaaaay too long to do but if an old timer like me can do so can you! :o)

                      • Spoilers: I actually really like the story around him, or rather “Murphy”. The watchman was a failed police puppet that the leaders of Krat hid behind City Hall, but the kids of the surrounding area would sneak in, talk, and play with him, eventually gifting him a doll in his image and name. I think its fair to say that Murphy had an awakened ego. Its sort of implied through item descriptions : “The Watchman contorted and broke from the adult's desires. However, he never forgot the children who considered him their friend.”(Broken Hero's Ergo). From this and the name of his Ergo, I imagine he actually awakened his ego before the Puppet Frenzy, which is why he might have been regarded as a failure in the first place. Unlike other puppets, Murphy didn't seem to be controlled by the King of Puppets, instead his translated dialogue is focused on the children he was friends with, and hes simply taking out his anger on us, or adults in general who he finds at fault.

Just beat him in ng+ with a fire weapon, I figured he would be weak to it since electricity probably wouldn't be

Turns out he isn't weak to fire, that was a looooong fight....

Was surprised how well the 'Krat Police Baton' worked, bonked the boss square on the back/rear with a heavy attack and it took massive damage. Must be something like strike damage.
