The Atoned Fight Strategy

The Best Tips for The Atoned:

When you first meet The Atoned, you can talk to her and you will eventually be faced with a Lie scenario decision. Note that the interaction with her is required to proceed since she holds the Cable Railway Key. You have two options when she asks who you are.

• Note: This Lie interaction requires the Stalker's Promise acquired from the Survivor in order to give the Stalker's Greeting. 

If you're determined to pass, you must prove your identity. Who are you? Are you... a Stalker?

• Give the Stalker's greeting (Lie)
• Do nothing

If you avoid lying she will begin combat for your own protection stating that only the worthy may pass. If you choose to Lie initially, you can come back to the same spot later on after you clear the Cathedral area by killing Fallen Archbishop Andreus. Standing in front of the few stairs in front of her will cause her to become aggro and start the battle.

The Atoned wields a large pickaxe and has the ability to inflict Decay with her lunges, which will slowly wear out your active weapon by decreasing its durability. If you back away, she will run toward you. She will also be able to lunge toward you. The Atoned is an agile character but has a standard set of melee moves.

If at a distance, she will start with a slow approach followed by a run and one of her basic attacks. As she approaches you after her run, you can quickly get behind her to avoid incoming damage, and it will also put you in a better position to attack or perform a backstab. You can continue to move away from her throughout the fight so she is forced to run, you can then choose to dodge, parry or block her action as soon as she approaches. She herself will also be able to swiftly reposition. Make sure you are locked on as she sidesteps away so you are not vulnerable. In between her charged attacks, where will be a brief moment where she stands idly as she recovers from her attack which is when you can aggressively attack or reposition and deal a charged attack behind her. If she starts performing her long combos while you're in close proximity, keep moving your character around her to stay out of her attack range and begin attacking as soon as you reach her backside. Quickly dodge away when she turns. This will increase your chances to backstab her, knocking her over, which can be followed up with a critical hit. 

Follow this pattern until she is defeated.

• If you did nothing:
• I am a sinner who couldn't save the ones I loved. If I let you go up there, that will only compound my sin. 
• Even if it hurts, persevere my child. Having only one leg and one arm should curb your curiosity...
• If you come back after lying:
• I must be getting old, to fall for a puppet's trick!
• You're an insult to humanity! Now pay the price.

During Fight:

• All lines are only if you did nothing:
• Child... Only the worth may pass. 
  
• Cherish your life. I do not wish to witness more death.
• You'll soon find out. Falling down here is better than devouring terror above. 
• Upon Defeat: You should thank me, child. Up there, it's hell..

After Fight:
