Simon Manus, Awakened God Fight Strategy

The Best Tips for Simon Manus, Awakened God:

Simon Manus, Arm of God

This fight begins with Simon Manus in his Arm of God form. At the start of this fight, note that you will need to face a second phase with Simon so be conservative with your Pulse Cells. He wields a large heavy mace object that he swings around. The weight of the weapon makes these swings move a little slower, but because of his size, he has a long reach. A lot of the time, he'll also be dragging his weapon on the round while sweeping it around the area surrounding him. Once he swings with his Forehand, you can expect he will reset and follow with a backhanded swing. Immediately after these attacks, there is a brief period where he pauses before beginning his next action. Play aggressively and spam your attacks to deny him the opportunity to retaliate. If you stay close to him, there's a chance his further-reaching hits will just miss you. You can also leap at him and attack. If you hit him aggressively enough, you will be able to stagger him and open an opportunity to deal a Fatal attack.

If you save your big attacks and continue aggressively attacking him, you will be able to clear his HP easily to initiate the next part of the attack against the Awakened God.

Simon Manus, Awakened God

In this state, Simon has additional powers and attacks. He now has the ability to also deal a number of ranged attacks. Watch the animation of his new God Arm. As he makes a summoning motion, this attack shoots out a gust of wind toward you. Another ranged attack will allow him to summon a celestial cloud that can shoot out glowing beams. You will need to continue to run to avoid damage. During this phase, you will need to keep moving to avoid getting caught in these large-scale ranged attacks. He'll also be spamming these attacks and will be able to inflict Disruption, an ailment that can cause instant death when filled. Continue with a combination of running in and attacking aggressively in between attacks. Deal a charged attack whenever you can hopefully stagger him so you can follow with a Fatal attack. Focus on dodging and parrying so you can continue to approach and continuously attack to slowly deplete his health until the fight is cleared.

can someone tell me how to beat him in ng+, he went from a 1st try boss to one where i cant get half way in second phase

      • Anonymous

not even that hard I got more stuck on earlier bosses, he's just kinda bad on a mechanical level. narratively and aesthetically he's incredible though and killing him is really gratifying, I just wish he was more interesting of a fight.

        • Anonymous

Had more trouble with Laxasia then him. His attacks are pretty slow in phase 1 so as long as you're not overly aggressive and focus on dodging, should allow you to get to phase 2 with 8 or more pulse cells which is more then enough to play a bit more aggressive in phase 2. Just gotta watch out for those disruption attacks which are super annoying

          • Anonymous

Everyone talks about wanting Laxasia's actual weapon instead of/in addition to the the Uroboros Eye, but for me personally I want Manus' big gada. That thing looks amazing. Not that I don't appreciate the exp farming club as well.

            • Anonymous

Acid destroy him. And like all big bosses of soulskine games, his weak to being agressive. Just dodge toward his armpit and get this f**ker

              • Anonymous

just a super easy boss with 1......1 move that just applies 1 debuff that just flat oneshots you.... the bosses got worse and worse as the game went on the early ones were better than the last few(looking at the damn swamp monster) and this one. the fight before the lightning person on the bridge was fun but thats about it

                • No one seems to mention but his name is likely a reference to Simon magus, a sorcerer in myth who tried to cheat his way into divinity status. It seems...fairly related.

                  • Anonymous

You may think this fight is easy. You may think it is hard. The one thing we all agree on... it isn't fun. Pure disappointment.

                    • Anonymous

to me this boss seems like an epitome of seeking power from outer forces, but when it arrives, it just makes things worse. i killed this guy with Laxasia's circle sword, golden lie and tyrant murderer's dagger first try. the only thing worth worrying about are projectiles that give you status effect. the rest is pretty clumsy and squishy. wish i could say the same about 2nd phase of a nameless puppet

                      • Anonymous

I got him on the first try with my beloved salamander dagger (Chef's kiss). I'm not here to brag, but I think he must be the most Dark Souls boss in the game, which is perhaps why his pattern seems so easy to dog and parry.

                        • Anonymous

I fought him with frozen feast +5, I kept spamming charged R2 attacks along with special 3 fable attack and did him in first try. I wonder how will this fight look in ng+

                          • Anonymous

I beat each boss up to this point in 5 or so attempts, this one has been over 20 attempts and counting... really tempted to summon a phantom for the first time but I doubt that would help :/ truly a cancerous fight

                            • Anonymous

I ended up doing a no specter run until this boss. Reality is, I was tired of the game and not really having much fun so I decided to use a specter and kill him.
I gave the heart just to be done with this. Lies of P is a good game but I just didn't get the enjoyment I had with Sekiro. I guess Sekiro really spoiled me with the perfect parry system that is just incredible. Lies of P has many parry window issues, it does not feel as elegant nor satisfying as Sekiro. It's not a bad game, I just think I played a vastly superior game before and it ruined the experience for me.

I think the problem I have with this boss, is that it is a lot easier to dodge him in a completely erratic way and not even trying to play well than to perfect parry him. This rubs me the wrong way honestly. It also is yet another boss where breaking it's weapon takes so long it's not even worth considering.

                                • Anonymous

On my ng cycle I first tried laxasia but this guy has been an a**hole. Completely swapped from base game lmao where laxasia took me 20 some odd times and manus about 3

                                  • Anonymous

I can't kill him, it's not fun at all. The game has been degrading since anything alchemist related and the isle was just a chore.
I **** on your game and I will never play any DLC or sequel.

Pretty sure everyone complaining this guy is terribly designed and impossible are trolling because they somehow got this far into the game in the first place. Prior bosses are harder. Will admit, this boss does have poor combat visual because the attacks are unrealistically slow, but still easy to parry (which undoes their intent to roll catch????).

                                      • Anonymous

Tyrant Murderers Dagger +10, satisfaction grindstone, assassin's amulet, patience amulet, friendship wishstone. Stay in his face, be relentless, dodge don't parry. That was my way

                                        • Anonymous

For people struggling with Phase 2...Dodge. His weapon swings are so slow that you can dodge toward him and avoid them petty easy and then be close to him to hit his fat ass. His knockback is so intense that blocking his attacks just sends you sliding back to the moon and you can't get swings in before he spams magic or unleashes more melees.

                                          • Anonymous

Killed him on the third attempt. It's ridiculous how much easier he is than Laxasia. I confess I threw three shot puts to end phase 2 early, because the lightning bolts from the sky deal way too much damage. Not particularly fun to fight, but at least he dies like a *****. Given the other comments, I'm not particularly looking forward to him on NG+...

I’m gonna fix y’all’s whole day, this worked even before patch for my first two runs and now works even better apparently.

Shot puts. Cluster grenades. Thermite. Add some aegis spam, easy dead Simon. This works for like LITERALLY every boss.

                                              • Anonymous

To hell with this guy. R2 spam with +10 crystal acid spear on rock drill handle chugga chugga choo chooed him into the moon. Used 2 shot put since there's no charged attack.

                                                • Anonymous

Safe to say that none of the bosses; past presentation, were not remotely interesting to fight. They were just spam heavy; requires more luck on what the boss is gonna decide rather than skill.

Devs, if you're reading this, add some bosses with some real soul-like mechanics in your DLC. Right now you're a DMC game walking around with a Demon-Souls Hat on and meeting none of that.

                                                  • Anonymous

This might just be the worst boss ever designed. He's spammy, tanky, does tons of damage, and is generally an *******. He's ruining my enjoyment of the entire rest of the game.

                                                    • Anonymous

my disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined. too easy first try without knowing anything about him, this shouldnt be the last mandatory boss in the game

                                                      • Anonymous

i actually liked this boss, treat it like a dark souls boss rather than trying to parry all his magic and crazy ****, his phase 2 spin attacks can be easily punished as well

                                                        • Anonymous

I didn't mind this boss so much. I could get through phase 1 no problems. But phase 2 felt a bit too random and had a little too much going on to keep track of. Im not the best player in the world but I had real trouble registering which moves were coming next. When I finally beat him it felt a little random to be honest.

It's a shame because the game is great but a few of these encounters just tip over to the wrong side of frustrating. What did you guys think?

                                                          • Anonymous

This fight is more annoying than difficult.

His massive range, hard to read animations, long combos with switchups, delayed swings, and magic spam in the second phase make the fight very frustrating. He's basically every annoying feature that a soulslike boss can have, rolled into one. I often found myself wondering what exactly I was supposed to do when faced with three different types of incoming magic and a tracking unblockable attack at the same time.

That said, he's still not even in the top 5 hardest fights in the game. If you equip a good Disruption resisting cartridge then you won't need to worry about the insta-kill status effect missiles (unless you intentionally face-tank them all for some reason). Save your perfection grindstone for his second phase, and remember to have a couple of Shot Puts ready so you don't miss out on a potential stagger.

                                                            • Anonymous

What a bummer... I hope, with the overall success of this game, that these Devs don't get the impression that Bosses like this are good.

                                                              • Anonymous

this fight highlights multiple of my biggest pet peeves with modern soulslike design.
Multiple different attacks having almost identicle telegraphs check.
Variable combos leaving you confuised when its safe to punish check.
Strange design that makes its movements very unintutive check.
Held windups that accelerate very fast forcing you to memorise timings instead of reacting check.
Massive health bar causes the fight to drag on check.
Two phases because why the **** not.

laxasia and nameless are harder but are much more enjoyable fights.

                                                                • Anonymous

He's worse on NG++ because he spams magic far more frequently then before. He'll do hand of God, into disruption orbs, into multi swipe slide position himself halfway across the arena to magic spam again. Get close to him He'll do hand of God, get too far He'll spam ranged magic and start spinning to winning like your younger sibling found the fireball button in a fighting game. Only when he decides oh yeah its a game and only then can you actually hit this stupid boss. I spent more time running then actually fighting Magnus. He's not even hard, he just plays keep away and zones you out with Magic. It's more of a battle of attrition rather than skill because he's relying on the fact that you'll use all your pulse cells trying to avoid his gimmicky magic rather than being an actual challenging boss. So for those of you who hate him on NG you're going throw your console into a fire on NG+.

                                                                  • Anonymous

Everyone whos crying ... boss is easy dont let them fool u. DIi him 4. Try with acid stone +5 Katana and 4 pots left (got 2 extra with amulet procc) so basicly 2 left. Dealing arround 410 dmg per hit on lvl 94 with 37 on technique and 45 on Vita and some in Stamina and weight.

                                                                    • Anonymous

If you are stuck on this, try throwing objects, it's too OP (at least for now, Oct 27). I used thermite, throwing cell, cluster grenade, carcass body fluid bottle, shot put, sharp pipe and saw blade. If you're on PC, backup the game save files so you can try again and again without buying +10k ergo worth of throwing objects each time if you die. I threw almost everything on phase 1, and managed to get to half hp of phase 2 before going all-in with physical attacks. I did not use legion arm throughout the fight, so it might be a bit better for you damage-wise. I had 3 uses of wishstone cube using "friendship wishstone", and managed to kill him right before the specter summon died. Might be better to use all throwables in phase 2, instead of phase 1, since the boss is 10x more dangerous with unpredictable moves. Throwables helped tremendously of this boss and before that (Laxasia the Complete). Good luck! :)

                                                                      • Anonymous

                                                                        • Anonymous

                                                                          • Anonymous

                                                                            • Anonymous

Second phase is the greatest bull**** in gaming history. You get instant killed from out of nowhere and most of the time you get thrown around like a pinball. I used to beat him twice and on NG+ but still it's a nightmare fight for me.

                                                                              • With all the various references in this game, you can't tell me it's a coincidence we fight "manus" with his giant arm, as a super annoying boss, right before a place called under the abyss. And that he still counts as human.

They really layed this on there thick.

                                                                                • Anonymous

you definitely need a mobile plan for this guy. Running r2, reach weapon, or advancing/charging fable art... keeps knocking you back, even on a perfect guard.

This dude is pretty chaotic by phase 2, with energy moves that have delayed blasts, on top of him fighting while that is preparing. Be sure to take your time, ready enough stamina for run and roll once an energy move is starting to place itself. You want to be near the boss to discourage some of his ranged moves. Bring extra element grinders, once a status effect triggers, you can really hit him hard, been trying acid or fire, it evens out his big health pool. It got harder to apply + capitalize on it by phase 2, but consuming 2 grinders did the trick.

Look for when he returns his giant mace to his shoulder. Happens during a horizontal swing combo. Thats a pretty good opening and Ive learned to look out for it. Its sort of a recovery/ end of a set of strikes, no attack going on. Its different from his vertical slam. I can fit like 2 charge attacks if he does that. It happens a lot more on phase 2. he does energy move, 1 or 2 big horizontal swing, then would bend his arm and return his weapon to shoulder.

                                                                                  • Anonymous

"durr you didnt beat him because he was nerfed" ok pal why dont you play the 1.0 version of every souls game then? clearly balance changes are for noobs.

                                                                                    • Anonymous

I can dodge some but parry mostly none. Will beat him after more tries but he feels weird. I loved Laxasia, very fun fight, this one idk

                                                                                      • Anonymous

Terrible tells on his attacks, relentless magic spam that build up the insta-kill status effect, attacks you while 3 other magic AOEs are occurring, etc. I'm all for difficulty, but this **** just isn't fun.

                                                                                        • Anonymous

Oh well, at least I'll always know I beat Hard Mode Manus!

                                                                                              • Anonymous

I love boss fights where i just have to stare at them while they sit there swinging their bullshit around. I dont understand why this game has a late game obssesion with 2 phase boss fights that are tanky as **** and do ****loads of damage. Which wouldnt even be that bad if i wasnt trying to avoid getting shot while getting smashed with a hammer at the same time.

                                                                                                  • Anonymous

                                                                                                    • Anonymous

I'm okay when he has big AoE that covers half of the screen. I'm okay when he has a homing attack that comes directly below you. But I AM NOT okay when all of those can happen all at once. Not to mention he hits so hard in phase 2

                                                                                                      • Anonymous

Boss is not too hard and not every game has to be for you. Good boss good game

                                                                                                        • Anonymous

In this game i only beat one Boss first Try and thats okay. But needing more than 20 for a lot of bosses killed it for me. And this pice of **** blows my mind. Phase one is ez but what is happening in phase two? I had 6 Estus and 1 load for the cube, and all nades left. I also have the secret picture weapon and didnt come close to 50% HP. This fight is not funny its pure stress.

                                                                                                          • This guy needs some serious adjustment. He’s worse than the Rot Goddess. Where those fights feel fair but difficult - this difficulty is just about spamming as much as they can’t into a single fight. There’s zero time to breathe or run away. Or even use your consumables. He has disruption build up for insta death or uses a move that can take 90% of your health even at 40 points. I’ve played and beat every FS game and many souls like - this isn’t balanced and it doesn’t feel fair. Winning it feels like it came down to luck not the skills you learned throughout the game.

                                                                                                            • Anonymous

Because this haves nothing to do with "lack of skill" or anything.
The Combos and attacks of this enemy, despite his size, is just ridiclious...
Swing after Swing after Swing... Almost no windows for counter-attacks.

I already know his moves, but it's still such a pain in the ass trying to avoid all the crap coming at you all at once in phase 2. If I actually manage to take him down, I'm pretty sure it's not going to be because I mastered the fight, but rather because I just happened to get lucky enough to avoid a few more of the various damage sources on that particular run.
The Laxasia fight felt so much more fun and fair than this bastard.

                                                                                                                  • This boss's main issue is doing attacks while doing attacks. He has a move where 3 xplosions appear under you, the hand of God and then the giant machine gun orb, all 3 of these happens while he is attacking you and you literally have to run away for 15 seconds or get spammed.

                                                                                                                    • Anonymous

Second phase is bloated with health and delayed attacks that give you enough time to have a baby. Extremely hard hitting attacks that make blocking basically a requirement if you don't have the dodge timing down.

If you don't have enough pulse cells by the time second phase starts, you're due for a bad time of being chased by a hard hitting boss while waiting for opening.

                                                                                                                      • Anonymous
